However, there was also increased emphasis on the importance of getting the flu vaccine. As there had been social distancing and lockdown restrictions in place during autumn\/winter 2020, this was the first-time seasonal flu and COVID-19 had both been freely circulating. Getting vaccinated was important to help reduce pressure om the NHS. Research had also found that there was an increased risk of serious illness if people were to catch both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time. The flu vaccine was available as normal through GPs and local pharmacies.
